From Fr Bruce

The Epiphany broadens our understanding of the birth of Jesus. For the Wise Men’s visit reminds us that the child who is born for us, although weak and defenceless, is the omnipotent God; a God who rules all things; a God of the Universe. It is not surprising that the Child Jesus should draw all people to Himself; rich and poor alike, our God reigns over all and cares for all with a love which is indiscriminate. The icon of the crib becomes a reminder to all those who would be disciples of Jesus that we should learn to love all humanity. There is so much to learn from the scene we find at the crib. We could make a wonderful prayer list or a topic list for meditation if we spent a little time standing and viewing the crib in Church. We can begin with the following concerns: Family Life, vulnerability, equality, human rights, power, its use and abuse, persecuted minorities, displaced persons... the list goes on. One thing is certain. We can say that, because of this great event the world will never be the same. We can truly say that Christianity, because of its claims, disturbs more than any other Religion and often the present day disciples receive attacks for their belief in the One who disturbs, through Love, the hard hearts of those who only believe in themselves.
